Henry Torrès, now a refugee in the United States, in addition to having played a prominent role in the politics of the Third Republic (he was at one time Vice-Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Chamber of Deputies), enjoys the distinction of having been one of the greatest trial lawyers of his generation. This "biography" of the collaborationist leader, whom M. Torrès thoroughly dislikes, thus takes on the form of an indictment rather than of the judicial verdict of history.
