The Future of American Politics
By Samuel Lubell
Harper, 1952, 285 pp.
This is an extremely stimulating analysis of the American political scene. Lubell's principal theme is that there has been a transformation in the United States from a traditional Republican majority to a normal Democratic majority. His conclusion that the key to the political situation is to be found in the "conflict among the clashing elements in the majority party" has been arrived at after extensive analysis of elections and much field work. He provides interesting insights on the impact of the maturing generation of immigrants and on the structure of isolationism.
